Name: Tali Magal
Hometown: Los Angeles, CA
Current Location: Dumbo, Brookly, NY
Day Job: Owner and executive producer of Freebird Productions
Daily Uniform: Skinny jeans, cute tank, blazer and necklace or scarf. In Summer, replace the jeans with a skirt or cut offs and replace the blazer with a linen shirt or jean jacket. And at night add pair of foxy heels.
I can’t stop buying: Photo books, fresh flowers, avocados and dark chocolate.
In the kitchen, I swear by: de Buyer mandolins and slicers (they reduce prep time by so much, and make things uniform for even cooking – not to mention nice looking) and Maldon sea salt flakes. They kick any dish up a notch and add an incredible texture to salads, meats, etc…
If I could cook for anyone: I’d love to have Lorne Michaels and the cast of SNL over to our place for dinner. I’d probably make something tasty and easy like a pasta served with a lot of wine.
Most incredible dinner out: The best meals always revolve around a happy table full of good friends & family, wine, thoughtful food and a lot of laughter. My husband and I love going out to great restaurants whenever the opportunity presents itself; we’ve had incredible meals at Chez Panisse, Brooklyn Fare, Le Bernardin, Blue Hill at Stone Barns. However, we get most excited by going to our tried and true favorite local restaurants like the new ACME, Franny’s, Roman’s, Colonie, Diner and Vinegar Hill House. They all serve the kind of seasonal farm fresh fare that we love.
The perfect breakfast: Is a toss up between a perfect sweet grapefruit and toast, a green juice or an egg white scramble with tarragon and herbs. But if i’m going out to brunch, I’m ordering the salmon or florentine eggs benedict (hollandaise on the side for drizzling.)
I have a few: PHOTOGRAPHY BOOKS! In the kitchen: Cake plates & Bodum double walled coffee glasses. In the closet: Jewelry from Citrine By the Stones, dresses and cross body bags by Rebecca Minkoff and scarves from Matta and Rag & Bone.
Comfort food is: Guacamole & chips & salsa. (I grew up in LA!)
I love cooking: Pasta dishes! There are so many amazingly delicious combinations you can make. I love the way pasta looks too. Glossy noodles and colorful sauces; satisfying in every way.
The taste I couldn’t live without: Lime, lemon, anything citrus… and dark chocolate!
My Motto: Laugh as much as possible! Surround yourself with like-minded, positive people with whom you can enjoy yourself.
