A BIT (E) OF ADVICE
starring my Mum as the expert and myself as the non-expert expert
Mum is trying on clothes while Pippa waits impatiently outside dressing room after experiencing an unflattering interaction with a stranger.
MUM
“Enough of that. I’m sick of talking about this. What the other person thinks about you
has nothing to do with you so move on.”
PIPPA
“It’s not that easy. I mean what if they think I’m stupid, unattractive, selfish, or what if they don’t like Sous Style or the color of my nail polish…..Or what if they just don’t like me in general? I mean, shouldn’t I be involved in anything that has to do with me even if it’s coming from someone else?”
MUM
“No, because it’s none of your business.”
PIPPA
“I think it is. It’s about me. I am my business Mum.”
MUM
“No, it may be about you but it’s their perspective, not yours therefore, let them think why they think and you not care. It’s simple. Aren’t you a little old to be talking like this Pippa? It’s time to get over yourself.”
PIPPA
“I’m totally over myself Mum. I was never under myself in the first place. I just think I’m allowed to care about what others think about me.”
MUM
“Darling, no one cares about you as much as yourself so worry about what you think of you first. OK?”
PIPPA
“Hmmm, that’s a worry.”
MUM
“Ok moving along. Now am I buying the grey or the black jeans? Darling what do you think?”
PIPPA
Well Mum, it’s none of my business now is it?”
