Rise and Shine with the Flower Girl
Lemon water and a beauty routine born from YSL and the dollar store
Name: Denise Porcaro
Location: New York, NY
Occupation: Founder and owner, Flower Girl NYC
7:30 a.m. The alarm or the dogs wanting love wake me up. I turn off alarm, pick up needy dogs if it’s their lucky day, and snooze for a bit longer.
7:45-8:00 a.m. Depending on the morning, I wake up fully and try to avoid my phone. More often than not, I fail at this.
8:00 a.m. Turn on the hot water, feed the dogs.
8: 10 a.m. Cut up lemon for what is supposed to be the first thing to drink in the morning—it’s more alkalizing, water with lemon—sometimes I add turmeric and cayenne. To be honest, if my boyfriend is making coffee at the same time it always wins over the hot lemon water! But, I try…
8:30-8:45 a.m. Today is not a gym morning—I’m taking a class tonight—so I try to get off of email and avoid my computer, which is in a closet that was turned into my “home office”. It happens to be smack in the middle of my living room, and on the way to the bathroom. I always use Moroccanoil for my hair, and I love to moisturize with oil like Rodin Olio Lusso for the body. Someone once told me that curling your eyelashes always makes a major difference, and it’s true.
9:00 a.m. Pick out outfit of black pants, cami, vintage boy blazer and my Marc Jacobs booties.
9:10 a.m. Add something extra today: a few necklaces grouped together. Also, I always try to remember fragrance. I love a good scent, and today it’s a spritz of Oud Immortel, Byredo Parfums.
9:30 a.m. It’s either a smoothie or grapefruit for breakfast while I sit at my desk and check emails. This can go on forever, so time management is a skill I practice here often!
10:30 a.m. Throw on a scarf, or two, and some lip stuff. I am equally as into my cocoa butter lip balm that I found at a 99-cent store than I am with my YSL Volupte Sheer Candy lipstick.
10:35 a.m. My dogs, Penelope and Piper, go for a walk, weather permitting. They don’t like the cold, which is understandable—you would probably feel the same if you were three or five pounds.
10:55 a.m. Off to more emails, the flower market and client meetings or the shop, depending on the day ahead! Today I’m off to meetings.
