Organize the Chaos

Shini Park's blog, Park & Cube, is undeniably gorgeous. We wanted to know how she keeps everything else that way.

Tell us a little about your amazing color coordinating system!
I’m not particularly obsessed with colour or anything but I feel like when there’s a lot of everything then it needs to go by colour. Overall, I think it shows harmony in the house. Although, it does cause a problem when looking for DVDs, so now we remember all our films by the colour of their spines.

And your shoe organizing method?
Like books, on a bookshelf, by colour!

I always keep handy:
Nail remover sleeves from Boots, since my nails chip really easily. I love the fact that the sheets are pre-dipped in nail-remover and oils so it removes nail polish while moisturizing your fingers.

My Can’t-Live-Without-It cleaning product(s):
All-surface antibacterial wet wipes. No need to dip your hand into a bucket of chemicals that might affect your skin. All it takes is one sheet to wipe down surfaces like windowsills, desks and even laptops (spare the screen!).

The gadget that changed my life is:
My ASUS EEE Transformer Pad - it’s like a cross between an iPad and a netbook, but the keyboard comes off. During travels I use it to work on the train/plane while other times I just use it to read off recipes while cooking. Also, a home garment steamer. It works magic on silk and jersey; which means you won’t have to spend so much at the dry cleaners for a silk blouse you’ve only worn for a few hours.

The best secret to keeping on top of my schedule is:
Written schedulers – I have three. One for work, one for the blog and one that keeps track of all my spendings. I’ve tried countless smartphone apps and Google calendar but at the end of the day I find it most important that there is no risk of my scheduler’s battery dying.

And where does the ugly stuff hide?
In the ugly wardrobe which is hiding behind a shelving unit, thank goodness! Some are under the stairs. The problem with the flat is that there’s hardly any storage space, so we have to make-do by covering corners up with curtains, shelves or screens – it makes things interesting.

Shini’s TOP 5 Takeaway Storage Solutions
1. Use a large square cotton scarf, place a pile of off-season clothes, tie diagonally into a neat parcel and store away (in an ugly wardrobe).
2. Use a bike stand if you have more than one bike to prevent everything toppling over
3. Use IKEA laundry solution clothes rack (£3!) as an open wardrobe.
4. Use an artist’s box to store away unused, unopened makeup products, I got mine for £5 from CASS Art
5. Use curtain clips to hang an interesting tea towel over your open-pantry to hide away food items
