Waking up with Kendall Conrad
The handbag & accessories designer gives us the inside scoop on her morning routine
6 a.m. I’m awake! Take a quick shower and then I’m up with my husband David and two daughters Luisa and Fernanda. They enjoy breakfast for a few minutes and then they’re off to the bus by 7:00am.
7:05 a.m. Take a quick beach walk with my dogs Ollie and Georgie on Loon Point — it’s the beach that’s right around the corner from our house. Today I’m giving the Cincha sandals from my new SS13 line a spin.
7:40 a.m. Head back home and run through a quick beauty routine. I typically reach for my rose cacao moisturizer by Flying Bird Botanicals and then apply Devita’s Solar Sunblock — both of which are made with all-natural ingredients. Makeup is quite minimal: Pure Organic black mascara and my favorite kohl eyeliner from Jouer Cosmetics. Finishing secret: I never leave the house without a touch of L’Oeil du Vert perfume oils.
Clothing is classic — I slip into my winter uniform of denim, cashmere, and boots. I tend to err on the side of ‘less is more’ with my accessories, usually choosing brass jewelry from my collection (today I am wearing sand dollar hoops and one of my leather cuffs).
7:50 a.m. Brew myself a cup of Intelligentsia Coffee (really delicious and super strong!) with raw cream and honey, have some berries, read the news, and respond to emails. On weekends I indulge in a bigger breakfast of huevos rancheros with the family.
8:15 a.m I begin my workday; each day brings a different task… today I’m choosing leathers for my next collection, sketching on my ipad, etc.
9:15 a.m. Head out for L.A. If there’s no traffic, I can get there in an hour and fifteen.
10:45 a.m. Stop by my store on Abbot Kinney in Venice, CA for a client meeting and catch up with my sales staff.
12:00 a.m. Head down the street for an early lunch meeting at my favorite restaurant, Axe. I always sit outside, right next to their beautifully kept garden. The staff is wonderful; they give you blankets when it’s cold and have fire pots burning in the winter. They have this amazing, thick lentil soup with lamb and freshly made harissa—you’ve got to try it if you’re in the area. They also make a really great hot ginger tea in the winter and cold pressed ginger juice in the summer.
1:30 p.m. Have a conference call with NYC scheduled so I head back to the store with my favorite afternoon beverage in hand: coffee with fresh almond cream and honey.
