4 Cats, 3 Plums, 2 Laptops & 1 Mini Coop with Gabriela

We skipped over to Mexico City this morning to wake up with designer Gabriela Bustillo

Name: Gabriela Bustillos

Current living in: Vosgos, Lomas de Virreyes in Mexico City

Day job: Graphic designer and fashion editor and stylist

7:14 a.m.  The first alarm goes off…but I like to snooze a little…

7:24 a.m. The alarm buzzes again and this time I stretch. I hear my cats meowing—they are ready to start the day!

7:28  a.m. I check my iPhone for text messages, Instagrams, and e-mails. I  can’t handle the signs of new e-mails unread!!!

7:34 a.m. If I have time, I like to read something in bed. Right now the two books on my bedside table are Just Kids by Patti Smith and On the Shortness of Life by Seneca.

8:02 a.m. I light some incense. I love Astier de Villate’s Aoyama—it smells like smoked wood and cloves.

8:04 a.m. I take a shower and start my beauty routine. I put on my robe, wash my face with cold water and soap, and then rinse. I put on my day cream, which is by Cebeth and has been custom-made for my skin type, then BB cream,  MAC Gold-Refined powder blush and NARS Desire powder. Sometimes, if I feel like wearing some mascara, I put it a little of MAC Pitchblack mascara in the corner of my eyelashes. The final touch is lip gloss (either Chanel in Gabrielle Rouge, MAC Amplified Hot Pink, or any nude lipgloss by L’Oréal) and Avène Thermal Spring Water Spray.

8:16 a.m. I brush my hair and head to my wardrobe to pick my outfit for the day.

8:24 a.m. Today, I’m wearing one of my favorite black dresses  by Maison Martin Margiela—I love its simple shape and it’s super comfortable for a long day. I’m also going to wear my sparkling pink books by H&M.

8:32 a.m. I pick out some accessories: my custom-designed arrow necklace, infinite tusk bracelet by Gabriela Artigas, simple heart-shaped Marc Jacobs bracelet, and my double finger gold ring, also a custom-design. Last but never least, I put on some perfume: I always have BYREDO Encens Chembur and Marc Jacobs Bang on rotation. Today I’ll go with BYREDO.

8:40 a.m. I head downstairs to feed my four cats, Machete, Calaca, Lili, and Mauro, who, by this time, are CRAZY for breakfast!

9:02 a.m. Alejandra, my partner on the fashion project Morning Mode  (www.morningmode.com), arrives for breakfast to discuss our week ahead.

9:12 a.m. We prepare some yellow plums, raspberries, papaya, with some black tea from Caravanseraï Tea House, some toast, fig jam, rice milk, and fresh juice.

9:16 a.m. The table is set so we put some music on. Today we’re listening to Velvet Underground and then the Beach Boys.

9:20 a.m. We start browsing in the Internet for new stuff for the blog and looking through some magazines (The Last Magazine, Vogue, Hypebeast, and Self Service are some of our favorites) for some new shoot ideas.

10.08 a.m. I brush my teeth!

10:12 a.m. We are ready to go! I have to leave for my office in Condesa. There I co-run a five-year-old design bureau called Sodio (www.nasodio.com).

10:21 a.m. Say goodbye to Alejandra and run to my car.

10:40 a.m. I arrive at the office that we share with other creatives and industrial designers, including the amazing collective Mob. I say hi to my co-workers, leave my stuff on my desk, and go to the lunch area to get a coffee. There I wait for my other partners to arrive, while checking my e-mails. We savor this moment, before we start running from meeting to meeting.

11:00 a.m. Tania, Shelly, and I (plus our interns Iñaki, Fer, and Gisela) start the weekly project meeting to catch up and plan our weekend agenda. We moved to this office space two months ago and we love it. I was remodeled by Mob.

11:34  a.m. Now we are ready for what the day might bring!
