In a Memorial Daze with Jeremy in Venice
Surf instructor & Chris Isaak enthusiast
Star of Glamour‘s web series The Single Life, Jeremy Searle has a 5-star personality, as well as a five-star rating on Yelp for his surf lessons. Could we ask for anything else? Yes, we can and he delivered: He’s funny, modest, a romantic, and oh hey, he can cook! We hung out in Jeremy’s Venice Beach backyard yesterday and drank coconut water (LA, baby), while he got busy lookin’ and cookin’ cute.
OK, let’s start with the basics: Age, star sign, hometown, and occupation:
31, Cancer, from Encinitas, but living in Venice, CA. Actor, writer, director, and founder of Gnarwhale Surf Lessons. My life is a mess. It’s fun.
What are you cooking?
Spicy cilantro beef satay and black pepper chicken satay with spiced-up corn drenched in butter and sprinkled with parmesan cheese. The marinade is peanut oil, garlic, ginger puree, cilantro, crushed red pepper, and green onions.
Thanks for having us over to BBQ. You’re good at it. What else are you good at?
Besides the obvious things like hover-boarding, I thrive at being extraordinarily modest.
Oh, and you’re funny. Nice. As a kid, how did you celebrate Memorial Day?
With my family at the beach. Often I’d wander looking for mystical sea cucumbers in the tide pools.
As a teenager who did you worship?
My mom and dad
Ah, love that answer. Let’s get to know you better: Describe a day in the life of Jeremy:
I surf in the morning, then work on something creative, then do something nice for someone, then make dinner, and maybe a fun evening activity.
What would you say is your defining characteristic?
I’m actually nice… I think. I dunno, ask my mom.
What are you currently obsessed with?
Thaumoctopus mimicus. It’s a morphing octopus everyone should look-up. As well as the Q section of the encyclopedia.
And what’s your go-to karaoke song?
Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game.” My heart weeps the lyrics right out if my mouth.
(Editor’s note: Girls, if you haven’t watched THIS for a while DO IT TODAY for some sexy-time inspiration. And if you happen to go on a date with Jeremy make sure you watch THIS for a sure-fire way to seduce him in song.)
Taste you can’t live without:
Motto in life:
What you think you become, what you feel you attract, and what you imagine you create.
In the past, how have you met girls?
Craigslist. Ha. That or just heaving a beach ball at them “on accident.” No, honestly it’s always been random… I’m like driftwood just bumping and bobbing out on the open sea.
First thing you notice about a girl?
Her smile, her gaze, her scent.
Oh, and are you single?!
Ok so what are you looking for?
Be. More. Specific.
Nah, I’d prefer to keep open to all possibilities.
Fair point. Finish this sentence: Men just want:
To be loved
And, women just want:
To be loved
