Julie Henderson Loves Cast Iron Skillets & Avocados

Oh and did we mention she's a model, actress & former basketball player

Name: Julie Henderson

Hometown: Ann Arbor, Michigan

Current Location: Brooklyn Heights, NY

Day Job: Model

Daily Uniform: It changes from day to day, but when I’m running errands or hanging out in my neighborhood it’s usually a t-shirt, torn jeans and boots or Stella McCartney for Adidas work out clothes, my favorite.

I have a few: Avocados in my house. I eat one a day; they are so good for your hair and skin. Also, I keep bags of Brooklyn Gorilla Coffee in my freezer, which is the best coffee ever!

In the kitchen, I swear by: Simplicity. I’m not a chef, not even close, and sometimes don’t have time to cook. I invested in this Williams Sonoma all-clad slow cooker; I can just throw some meat and spices in there, leave the house and by the time I come home it’s all ready for me to eat. Magic.

The taste I couldn’t live without: Baby Cakes has the best donuts in NYC. I have food allergies (no wheat, soy, eggs or nuts) so I’m picky about the desserts I eat. Also, french fries are a must especially good home made ones; just 3 ingredients: potatoes, olive oil and salt!

I’m dying to go to: Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare. I heard it’s amazing and quite the eating experience. Oh, and tough to get reservations.

If I could cook for anyone: I’m not really comfortable cooking for anyone other my sister or boyfriend, but if I had to cook I would probably keep it simple (big surprise) with lamb chops. A little salt, pepper and garlic and you’re good to go! See, I’m such a newbie!

My Mother taught me: The importance of a cast iron skillet and to stick to doing things that make you happy and in turn you will make others happy.

Most incredible dinner out: I went to an Argentinian restaurant in Brazil that was to die for. We ordered the fries made with truffle oil and garlic that literally melted in your mouth; and the steak, like butter! It was endless food and wine goodness.

My Motto: Food adds joy and happiness to your life!
