Piera Gelardi &… a Lot of Food

Refinery29's Creative Director serves up a FEAST

Name: Piera Gelardi

Hometown: Cape Porpoise, Maine

Current Location: Brooklyn, New York

Day Job: Creative Director and co-founder of Refinery29

Daily Uniform: A button-up shirt, shorts, a blazer, and lace-up boots.

My go-to five minute meal: Whole grain toast with avocado.

I have a few: Places I’d like to visit.

In the kitchen, I swear by: Vegetables of all kinds, olive oil, sea salt, and lemon.

I’m dying to go to: Istanbul, Mexico City, and Tokyo.

Hidden talents? I’m a pun master (I even have a pun game I invented with a friend called Hair She Blows).

The taste I couldn’t live without: Salt.

If I could cook for anyone: I’d make pancakes for Betty White.

My go-to crowd pleaser meal: Rigatoni with eggplant sauce, fresh basil, and lots of fresh Parmigiano-Reggiano.

My mother taught me: Almost everything I know.

The best thing(s) about New York: People watching, the subway, my friends, the abundance and variety of cheap, amazing food.

The best thing(s) about Maine: My family, walks at Popham and Goose Rocks Beaches, Primo restaurant, the natural beauty, and it’s cliche but, yes, the lobster.

My Top 5 meals:

1. The mezze platter at Tanoreen, Bay Ridge Brooklyn

2. Fried catfish salad at Ayada, Queens

3. Fish tacos in Todos Santos, Mexico

4. Chocolate chip bread pudding at Blue Ribbon Bakery NYC

5. Everything at Primo in Rockland, Maine.

Although, most of my favorite meals have been ones cooked by my family and friends.

My motto in life is: Don’t forget to have fun!
