Let’s start with the view – are you sold yet?

If not, a little background: the house is located on Spain’s Costa Brava, a jagged coastline of cliffs and sandy beaches. This property in particular includes access to two private “coves,” one used for mooring your yacht (a must these days) and the other for general relaxation purposes.

The main house features three bedrooms and floor-to-ceiling windows for a full panoramic view, but we’re more interested in the heated infinity pool, wine cellar, roof terrace, and outdoor cinema. Then there’s the two guest houses, one with it’s own separate swimming pool. Are we buying a hotel or a private home?

When I want…

1. An amazing dinner: I go to Gracia Madre. Very delicious organic, vegan, Mexican food. Totally worth the wait.

2. To welcome a friend from out-of-town on a visit: Take them to Bar Jules for brunch. Have yet to see someone NOT fall in love with this perfect little place. Always super fresh and the menu changes daily for what’s in season.

3. A nice haircut: Oxenrose. Ask for Matthew Luce—he’s the best!

4. A caffeine high: Blue Bottle. Great lattes. Irresistible sesame-absinthe cigar cookies.

5. A decor item for my home: Plantation is a killer shop to scour for DIY inspiration.

6. A new pair of shoes: Gimme Shoes. A choice selection of my favorite designers from Acne to Loeffler Randall to Repetto.

7. Take out: Order from The Plant. I’m addicted to this place. I’ll have anything on the menu plus a kale banana almond smoothie, please.

8. A rad outfit: I hit up MAC-Modern Appealing Clothing. They carry the likes of Dries van Noten and Comme des Garçons and completely seduce me every time I visit.

9. A lazy Sunday: A book, a burrito to-go from Cancun and Dolores Park for epic people-watching and relaxing under the palm trees.

10. Pizza with a side of something special: Uncle Vito’s is an old-school pizzeria where the Brown Sisters—the famed, fabulous identical twins–dine every night. It’s like something out of a Diane Arbus photo. I’ve heard it’s considered good luck to spot them!

PROBLEM: A shocking amount of time has passed since you gave your bathroom a proper scrub-down. You’ve stocked up on bleach and rubber gloves, but you keep getting sucked into Toddlers and Tiaras—which you justify as “background”—every time you start to get your hands dirty.

SOLUTION: Address your cleaning A.D.D. by setting a timer—on your phone, microwave, oven, what have you—for thirty minutes. Knowing you’re under the clock will keep you focused on the task at hand.

This is my mom, Janna, and I, in the kitchen making Christmas dinner.

You two share a love of cooking?

All my cooking comes from her! Our recipes get handed down the generations. We have a world famous anchovy-less Caesar salad dressing, passed down from Grandpa to her to me – it’s our family secret.

So how do you celebrate her on Mother’s Day?

I never give my mom a gift for Mother’s Day. Every year I write her an epic card, several pages long about what a good mom she is. She looks forward to it every year. Her birthday is in June so the gifts come then….

So the salad is off-limits – any other Janna recipes you’re willing to share?

My mom makes this banana cake that’s essentially banana bread with icing. I make it all the time.

A little Mother’s Day food love. Brilliant.

Stir shortening to soften. Stir in dry ingredients. Add bananas and half the buttermilk; mix until all flour is dampened. Beat vigorously 2 minutes. Add remaining buttermilk and the eggs; beat 2 minutes longer. Fold in nuts. Bake in rectangular pan 350 degrees for 35 minutes or until cooked through.

Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl, and beat with an electric mixer until smooth. Add more cream if too stiff. I also mix in half a banana into the frosting.

I have a few: Too many pairs of black ankle boots (see above).

In the kitchen, I swear by: Garlic, fresh black pepper and a parmesan rind added to soups for depth of flavor (take it out before you serve, though!).

The taste I couldn’t live without: Raw fish + soy sauce. How can something so wrong taste so right?

Most incredible dinner out: Fortunately, there have been a few. Freshly caught fish in Lana’i—Hawaii sticks out for obvious reasons.

Best thing(s) about London: The diversity, the creative energy, the abundance of green space, the weather (Ha).

If I could cook for anyone: I’d make a proper Sunday roast for my friends. I used to cook for them all the time when I was a student, but sadly life isn’t so leisurely these days…

I’m dying to go to: Tokyo. For the food, obviously.

Go-to five-minute meal: Poached eggs and mashed avocado on sourdough toast. Plenty of salt and pepper. Nice cup of tea on the side.

Excuse me while I get all Real Housewives here, but got to love an Upper East Side Townhouse.
